The Central Organization of Trade Unions, COTU (K) watched with disbelieve an attack on its Secretary General by the Nominated Member of Parliament Racheal Shebesh appearing on today’s Citizen Television (Monday 14th May, 2012) Breakfast Show.
Whereas the Hon. MP has every right to express her views over the NHIF issues, her deliberate move to attack and cast aspersions on the character of the COTU (K) Secretary General as well as depict the membership that the COTU (K) Secretary General leads as being “out of touch with the leadership” was unfortunate as was least expected of a honourable member of her caliber particularly bearing in mind that besides being a first time MP, she doesn’t represent any individual in parliament.
Kenyans have been and continue to be treated to unpalatable news from the NHIF and for Hon. Shebesh to spend a couple of minutes lecturing the nation on the “inadequacies of the COTU (K) Secretary General” puts to doubt her personal character as well as her party’s which nominated her to parliament.
The Orange Democratic Party, ODM as a party often has expressed a deep desire to be a party founded on zero-tolerance to corruption, mismanagement of public funds, and the observance of the rule of law among others and for its nominated MP to eloquently defend the looting of public funds as Hon. Shebesh did this morning calls for the party to issue its official position as far as the NHIF Saga is concerned unless the party has created a departure from these very principles upon which it was founded.
Lest it is amazing as it was unbelievable watching Hon. Shebesh repeatedly defend a scheme that is an open conduit to siphon workers hard-earned money.
Francis Atwoli, MBS
SECRETARY GENERAL
